Players in the electric vehicle industry said the Philippines is making significant strides in getting more people to adopt e-vehicles.

Players in the electric vehicle industry said the Philippines is making significant strides in getting more people to adopt e-vehicles.

Rommel Juan, president of the Electric Vehicle Association of the Philippines, and Mark Tieng, managing director of the Solar Transport and Automotive Resources Corp., both agreed, however, that incentives remain the key in increasing the share of e-vehicles in the motoring market.

Juan and Tieng said that in other countries e-vehicles get tax breaks that make them more competitive with combustion-engine cars.

They also said that electric charging infrastructure needs to be in place to make it more convenient for owners of electric cars to top up their vehicles.
